The irony that we arrived here just days before things got crazy globally, has not been lost on us. Turns out we were early adopters of panic buying. We started back in January when we began to really think about just how much food and other supplies we would need for 3 months. Now we realise it is unlikely that we would have been able to get everything we needed if we had been due to come even a couple of weeks later. We would have looked very “un-Australian” trying to fight off the Whitemark locals for the limited supplies in the only supermarket on Flinders island.
We managed to get off the island for a couple of hours last Saturday night - a short rubber ducky ride to an anchored yacht in East Cove where we joined Ron, Ruth Kevin and Erica for happy hour on Jessabee.
Apart from yachties and kayakers, visiting the island, there is also plenty of local wildlife to keep us company. The wallabies are incredibly tame and you can pretty much walk right up to them without them even lifting their heads to acknowledge your presence. The cape barron geese are a different story! They are very territorial and we are competing with a few couples at the moment for the territory surrounding the buildings as well as the airstrip where they are fond of the mown grass.
There is still a lot of the island left to explore. We never get tired of the hikes, views and sunsets as well as the spare time we have to enjoy them…
Happy hour on Jessabee
First time off the island since arriving (if only 40 metres or so)
Sun starting to set from Jessabee

One of the not so friendly geese asking politely for me to move on.

The Deal Island Museum - We get distracted every time we clean in here. Lots of interesting history. (You can see the lighthouse in the distance).
We will be adding "Mt George" to this before we leave.
Another colourful sunset.
Lovely piece of paradise. What a great adventure. You guys look so relaxed.
Love the first photo! You both looked very relaxed. xx
